Title of Presentation: Reducing Gaps in Student Performance by Addressing Student Behavior
Presented By: Dr. Stewart Pisecco; Chris Huzinec, MA, Director of Research; Michael Thomas, MA, Houston ISD
Presented At: Fall 2011 PBIS Leadership Conference; Chicago, IL
Description: Under the mandate of No Child Left Behind, all student groups are expected to make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and meet the academic standards and requirements of their state as reflected in state assessments of academic skills. These student groups include ethnic minorities, economically disadvantaged, and students served by Special Education. Research on AYP and state accountability have identified the existence of a gap in achievement not only between majority and minority students and economically disadvantaged students but between Special Education and General Education students.
The study investigates the impact of Review360 on the behavioral and academic performance of a group of 260 students with behavioral plans. The purpose of this presentation is to examine the relation between the degrees of implementation consistency and academic achievement

The purpose of this presentation is to:
- Identify common behavioral issues address by special education teachers and strategies they use with their students,
- Evaluate the impact of districts’ behavioral services on student behavioral progress and examine the relation between behavioral progress and academic achievement.
